My Life With The Walter Boys by Ali Novak | Read-a-thon Update #2!

Hey!

As you might know, I am participating in a Read-a-thon, to know more, go here. And I finally got done with the second book from my TBR of thirteen yesterday! The book was My Life With The Walter Boys by Ali Novak which I chose for the prompt-A Place in This World: Read a book set in a country outside your own!(BTW, the book was based in Colorado and a bit of New York)

My Life with the Walter Boys eBook: Novak, Ali: Amazon.in: Kindle Store

Title- My Life With The Walter Boys

Author- Tahereh Mafi

Blurb(Goodreads)-

My Life with the Walter Boys centers on the prim, proper, and always perfect Jackie Howard. When her world is turned upside down by tragedy, Jackie must learn to cut loose and be part of a family again.

Jackie does not like surprises. Chaos is the enemy! The best way to get her successful, busy parents to notice her is to be perfect. The perfect look, the perfect grades-the perfect daughter. And then…

Surprise #1: Jackie’s family dies in a freak car accident.

Surprise #2: Jackie has to move cross-country to live with the Walters-her new guardians.

Surprise #3: The Walters have twelve sons. (Well, eleven, but Parker acts like a boy anyway)

Now Jackie must trade in her Type A personality and New York City apartment for a Colorado ranch and all the wild Walter boys who come with it. Jackie is surrounded by the enemy-loud, dirty, annoying boys who have no concept of personal space. Okay, several of the oldest guys are flat-out gorgeous. But still annoying. She’s not stuck-up or boring-no matter what they say. But proving it is another matter. How can she fit in and move on when she needs to keep her parents’ memory alive by living up to the promise of perfect?

Rating-

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

I loved the book, I was so sucked in!
Basically, if you’re looking for light hearted read that makes you laugh and happy, then this is the perfect book for you. I was looking for such a book, which is the main reason that made me love it.

The characters were fun, I liked the Walter Boys very much, they just made me laugh way too much! They were sweet and the typical ‘boys’. I liked how they were faulty and they got in fights with each other but also defended and loved one another till the end. And then each of them was so different! Like they were brothers, but their traits were much too different, for example, Cole was the jock whereas Alex was the geek.
Jackie was good, too, though she was more of a goody two shoes, one I didn’t really relate with much, but then again that trait of hers helped add a humour to the book.

I liked the fact that the author emphasized on the importance of family and friends.

“How could I be thinking of cute boys when my family was gone?” This was the base of my thoughts during most of the book. You lost your entire family shouldn’t you be grieving but I also understood that the author was going for a happy mood and light read, so I guess that could be excused. Similarly, there were many faults, so many things just didn’t make complete sense, but I really choose to ignore them because they add up to the mood and theme. Also, you won’t really notice them until you absolutely look for them!

Ooh, and there was a very fun love triangle! And it was very confusing, I wasn’t sure about who she was gonna end up with till the end, I think I still am not, but I guess that’d be solved in the sequel!

Have you read the book? What did you think? Do we agree? Let me know!
