First, I’d like to give myself a pat on the back. Yay, people! I’m now officially done with the Read-a-thon and not to brag, of course, but I have to admit I was FAST!
So back to topic, to those of you confused, I’m participating in a Read-a-thon, to know more about it, go here. And I just got done with the thirteenth book from my TBR of thirteen, thereby marking the official end of this read-a-thon! So, the book I just read a.k.a the last book of the Read-a-thon, was An Ember In The Ashes by Sabaa Tahir which I had picked for the prompt Fifteen: Read a book released in 2015!

Title- An Ember In The Ashes
Author- Sabaa Tahir
Blurb(Goodreads)-
Laia is a slave. Elias is a soldier. Neither is free.
Under the Martial Empire, defiance is met with death. Those who do not vow their blood and bodies to the Emperor risk the execution of their loved ones and the destruction of all they hold dear.
It is in this brutal world, inspired by ancient Rome, that Laia lives with her grandparents and older brother. The family ekes out an existence in the Empire’s impoverished backstreets. They do not challenge the Empire. They’ve seen what happens to those who do.
But when Laia’s brother is arrested for treason, Laia is forced to make a decision. In exchange for help from rebels who promise to rescue her brother, she will risk her life to spy for them from within the Empire’s greatest military academy.
There, Laia meets Elias, the school’s finest soldier—and secretly, its most unwilling. Elias wants only to be free of the tyranny he’s being trained to enforce. He and Laia will soon realize that their destinies are intertwined—and that their choices will change the fate of the Empire itself.
Rating-
Ah, what can I say? This was perfection!
I really loved the setting of the book, the Empire and how beautifully cruel it was portrayed! It was so much fun to read about Empire and how divided the people were. Another thing is that the author wrote the place with such detail, that it was hard not to see it play out before your eyes!
I really liked the writing style. I got a bit of Shatter Me vibes, and since I loved the series, it was kind of a given that I’ll like this one too! I have to give credit to the romance, I didn’t know who will end up with whom till the very end, and I think I’m still not sure, TBH!😆
Ah, the characters. I really, really loved Laia, how her personality kind of changed, in the start she was shown as a kind of a coward, but then boom, not anymore, like she was still afraid but she had kind of conquered it! I really loved her POV, it was filled with a bit of insecurities and grief. Then, I also loved Elias, about how he had so much strength but he offered resistance towards it for he didn’t want to be a killer!
All the fantasy lovers? I really think this is The Book for you!
Have you read the book? Did you like it? What were your thoughts? Let me know!
