Book Bloggers Set My January TBR!

Hello there! How you doin’?

Yeah! You guessed it right! This January I’ll be following a TBR(yay) which is made up of books loved by fellow book bloggers! A big thank you to Ashmita @The Fictional Journal for coming up with this idea, it’s just awesome innit? And another big thank you to all those book bloggers I contacted and troubled with my extraordinary demands(sorry for that)!🤩😅

Let’s see the books we have here, shall we?

Oh and I’ll be going with just five books since as you might know(or not) I’m a little busy in January😔

Windfall by Jennifer E. Smith

Let luck find you.

Alice doesn’t believe in luck—at least, not the good kind. But she does believe in love, and for some time now, she’s been pining for her best friend, Teddy. On his eighteenth birthday—just when it seems they might be on the brink of something—she buys him a lottery ticket on a lark. To their astonishment, he wins $140 million, and in an instant, everything changes.

At first, it seems like a dream come true, especially since the two of them are no strangers to misfortune. As a kid, Alice won the worst kind of lottery possible when her parents died just over a year apart from each other. And Teddy’s father abandoned his family not long after that, leaving them to grapple with his gambling debts. Through it all, Teddy and Alice have leaned on each other. But now, as they negotiate the ripple effects of Teddy’s newfound wealth, a gulf opens between them. And soon, the money starts to feel like more of a curse than a windfall.

As they try to find their way back to each other, Alice learns more about herself than she ever could have imagined…and about the unexpected ways in which luck and love sometimes intersect.

Windfall was recommended to me by Riddhi @Whispering Stories more than twice, and the cover looks fantastic, synopsis is great, I’m like why the hell not? And I’ve actually heard way too many good things about it so there’s that.

First, there were ten—a curious assortment of strangers summoned as weekend guests to a little private island off the coast of Devon. Their host, an eccentric millionaire unknown to all of them, is nowhere to be found. All that the guests have in common is a wicked past they’re unwilling to reveal—and a secret that will seal their fate. For each has been marked for murder. A famous nursery rhyme is framed and hung in every room of the mansion:

“Ten little boys went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were nine. Nine little boys sat up very late; One overslept himself and then there were eight. Eight little boys traveling in Devon; One said he’d stay there then there were seven. Seven little boys chopping up sticks; One chopped himself in half and then there were six. Six little boys playing with a hive; A bumblebee stung one and then there were five. Five little boys going in for law; One got in Chancery and then there were four. Four little boys going out to sea; A red herring swallowed one and then there were three. Three little boys walking in the zoo; A big bear hugged one and then there were two. Two little boys sitting in the sun; One got frizzled up and then there was one. One little boy left all alone; He went out and hanged himself and then there were none.”

When they realize that murders are occurring as described in the rhyme, terror mounts. One by one they fall prey. Before the weekend is out, there will be none. Who has choreographed this dastardly scheme? And who will be left to tell the tale? Only the dead are above suspicion.

This one was recommended by Rachel @A Bookworm’s Paradise after a lot of ‘brain racking’ because um, I had a few conditions, so sorry about that!😅

Now, I’ve read three of Christie’s books, and while I’m not what you might call a big ‘fan’, I did enjoy her books, and am really looking forward to reading this one – I mean, look at the synopsis!

A couple’s fifteen-year marriage has finally gotten too interesting…

Our love story is simple. I met a gorgeous woman. We fell in love. We had kids. We moved to the suburbs. We told each other our biggest dreams, and our darkest secrets. And then we got bored.

We look like a normal couple. We’re your neighbors, the parents of your kid’s friend, the acquaintances you keep meaning to get dinner with.

We all have secrets to keeping a marriage alive.

Thank you to Fajar @The Write Path for recommending this to me. Like seriously look at the plot, how did I not pick this up before?

For the first eighteen years of her life, Rose Gold Watts believed she was seriously ill. She was allergic to everything, used a wheelchair and practically lived at the hospital. Neighbors did all they could, holding fundraisers but no matter how many doctors, tests, or surgeries, no one could figure out what was wrong with Rose Gold.

Turns out her mom, Patty Watts, was just a really good liar.

And she’s waited such a long time for her mother to come home.

Sanskriti @Portals Into Books suggested this one for me. This one feels like a pretty cool spin off to Everything, Everything, can’t wait to pick it up. Though, I really don’t like the cover.

When Adam Blake lands the best elective ever in his senior year, serving as an aide to the school psychologist, he thinks he’s got it made. Sure, it means a lot of sitting around, which isn’t easy for a guy with ADHD, but he can’t complain, since he gets to spend the period texting all his friends. Then the doctor asks him to track down the troubled freshman who keeps dodging her, and Adam discovers that the boy is Julian—the foster brother he hasn’t seen in five years.

Adam is ecstatic to be reunited. At first, Julian seems like the boy he once knew. He’s still kindhearted. He still writes stories and loves picture books meant for little kids. But as they spend more time together, Adam realizes that Julian is keeping secrets, like where he hides during the middle of the day, and what’s really going on inside his house. Adam is determined to help him, but his involvement could cost both boys their lives…

Thank you to Cherelle @A Bolt Out Of The Book for recommending this to me! Again, I’ve heard a lot about this book, it has been on my TBR since ages! Plus, I love the cover(look at me judging books by their covers)

And that’s all my TBR holds for the moment! Again, thank you so much to all of the book bloggers I troubled, you were a great help! Now I may asked to be excused, thank you.

  1. Woah! This is so cool. Hey what about a book blog/ book club we organize using a collab blog? And have TBR’s from a few book bloggers?
Like I’m thinking a collaborative TBR, every month (5 books) and having 5 bookworms pick one book each. And we could do it!!
Let me know if you have any ideas!
