Wonder by R. J. Palacio | Read-a-thon Update #3 + A big thank you + hiatus announcement!

Hey there! To those unaware, I participated in a Read-a-thon, to know more go here, and this morning I got done with the third aka the last book from my TBR, which I had chosen for the task Unlock Manifolds: read a book that features disability rep and the book was Wonder by R. J. Palacio.

Now, a big good news! A few days back, we here at Fictionally Crazy reached 150 followers! Woohoo! A big thank you to all of you who take time out of your busy schedules and read the stuff I write! Every like, every view, every comment, everything means so much to me, you can’t even imagine! Once again, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Moving on, I want to announce that I am taking a break from WordPress possibly till end of February. The thing is my exams are nearing and they are gonna be offline, which is a big deal because to be honest, I cheated in the online tests and would have to take these quite seriously. Normally, I would have managed but since a few days I haven’t really been enjoying blogging, and I am not having fun reading either not gonna lie, my posts seem dull, plus you would have noticed that I hadn’t been much active on your posts either, I felt like it’s been forever since I commented spammed someone’s comment section. So yeah, I won’t be available here and I may not read your posts either. A huge apology for that. Also, all the best for my exams, cause if I don’t study I’m definitely gonna flunk some subjects! XDD

Moving on the review!

Wonder (Wonder, #1)

Title- Wonder

Author- R. J. Palacio

Blurb(Goodreads)-August Pullman was born with a facial difference that, up until now, has prevented him from going to a mainstream school. Starting 5th grade at Beecher Prep, he wants nothing more than to be treated as an ordinary kid—but his new classmates can’t get past Auggie’s extraordinary face. Wonder, begins from Auggie’s point of view, but soon switches to include his classmates, his sister, her boyfriend, and others.

Rating-

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Oooooof, this book was truly a wonder!(me trying to make a pun, failing miserably)

The writing style. It was sweet, sad, light and yet deep too. The book had an optimistic aura to itself, which I hadn’t expected at all. Another thing was book was divided into multiple POVs including Auggie and his friends, and it was really nice to read them, and know how they felt about his features, and yet supported him and loved him all the same.

I loved all the characters, even selfish Via and sad Auggie. I liked Jack most of all, and I really liked how loving the parents were. And Justin, too. Like there was this part where the author wondered how universe was cruel towards Auggie due to his features but also took care of him with the loving people who surround him. I really liked that part, it showed that there is always a bright side and all.

Another thing I loved was the sense of humour of all the people there. I’m a big fan of humour, and I was impressed.

I liked how short the book was. With the exams, I didn’t really have much time to read, and the short length of it helped me squeeze it in between my schedule, so that was a big plus point.

One thing I didn’t like(big spoiler alert) I felt that Jack deserved the award more than Auggie. I was really disappointed at that part, even Summer would have worked for me, but not Auggie for some reason. But that was the only thing that irked me, apart from that this book was perfect! I really think everyone should read this!

Have you read the book? What did you think? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Good luck on your exams! I’m now realizing that I don’t have to do exams cos I’m at home doing online learning. And GCSEs were cancelled for Year 11 and A-Levels for Year 13 so this year is going to be hella chill for everyone 😅 I read wonder many years ago, and I think I liked it? Maybe?

    1. Lmao that happens with me too, I forget what I thought about a book I read ages ago😂
And ahhh that’s cool! Our school has started offline teaching, so those who don’t wish to go aka me, don’t have any classes at all! Wed have to give offline exams tho, that’s a really big challenge.

  3. Im glad you’re taking some time for yourself. I know the feeling of having too many deadlines and expectations of having a blogging. It does get a bit too much at times.
Ps i read this book about 3 years ago and remember bawling 😭 my eyes out over it. Movie is worth a watch as well. I can’t seem to remember too much about it but it’s definitely a must read x

      1. Yeah, parents are protesting against it, and since they cut off the online classes too, they say it’s a violation of right to education🤷🏻‍♀️
Idk with the amount of protesting parents are doing, I’d thought they would have stopped but apparently not😐
